缅甸琥珀即缅甸硬琥珀（burmite），最早由赫尔姆命名。
缅甸琥珀的整体储存量很小，品种又极其多，其中大部分是棕红珀外，别的品种都很少，金珀所占缅甸琥珀总量的20%不到，而蓝珀占缅甸金珀总量的20%不到。也就是说缅甸蓝珀只占缅甸琥珀总量的3-4%，珍稀程度可想而知。加之缅甸蓝珀硬度高，光泽度好。
缅甸琥珀的分类与其它珠宝的分类方法大致是一样的，如冰种翡翠、黄金、白银、粉钻、蓝宝石等，缅甸琥珀同样是，按照外观包括颜色分类，缅甸琥珀的成长条件极其复杂，导致其种类非常多，可分为金珀、棕珀、根珀、蜜蜡、血珀、虫珀以及茶珀，另外、缅甸琥珀又有一个变种，叫做变色龙。
缅甸棕珀是缅甸琥珀中的一个大种，与其他缅甸珀种一样，出生于白垩纪，大多缅甸棕珀数由棕色树脂形成，也有一部分是因氧化受热而形成。
