关公是三国的勇猛之将，在中国民间一般称呼为武财神，故明之意，是个财神，有招财、守财、也有保平安的意思。同时关公是以忠贞、守义、勇猛和武艺高强称著于世。在中国的佛教中，关公还被誉为伽蓝菩萨。
关公是忠义勇敢的象征，被尊为"武圣""武财神"．形象威武，忠肝义胆，可避邪、护佑平安、招财进宝、财源广进，提振权威．最宜开店经营、经商理财、政府官员等各届之成功人士。
关公武财神又为正义及正气化身，最善制煞镇妖除鬼魅防小人，关帝本为道教的护法四帅之一，如今道教主要将他作为财神来供奉。其职能除了"治病除灾，驱耶辟恶，诛罚叛逆，巡察冥司"，还有"司命禄，庇护商贾，招财进宝"，又因其忠义，故被奉之为财神。
